Alfheim

Alfheim is the land of the elves. Some of them help humans, while others are a menace to the habitants of Midgard. Generally, we don’t know a lot about them, for they are underrepresented in Old Norse literature. Nevertheless, they are fairly similar to gods because of their magic and power, and the fact that humans made sacrifices to them. The association between the elves and natural elements such as mountains, woods, lakes and streams was not documented during the Early Middles Ages, but rather in more recent Icelandic folklore. Freyr, the best-known Vanir, resides in Alfheim as he is considered the owner of this realm, despite not being an elf himself.
