Niflheim

Niflheim is the well of all ice and cold and is located in the very north of Utgard. Together with Muspellsheim, Niflheim has existed forever, long before the creation of the world. Deep under the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil is a well known as Hvergelmir. It is the origin of the streams Elivagar, which flow down to Ginungagap, the void between Niflheim and Muspellsheim. The joining of the spark of Muspellsheim and the water of Niflheim formed the first living creature, the giant Ymir, because warmth and moisture are the most important conditions for life. Furthermore, Niflheim is the home of the frost giants. In contrast to other giant races, they are rather calm. One of them, whose name is unknown, together with his horse Svadilfari built the huge, strong wall around the world Asgard.
