Aesir

The Aesir, together with the Vanir, are one of the two main god families in Norse mythology. Sometimes it is hard to say to which dynasty a particular goddess or god belongs because, in order to keep the peace, marriage and slavery mixed them all together. Furthermore, the boundary between Aesir and giants is blurred, as some of the Aesir are descendants of giants or mixed their blood to become blood brothers. It is the generally believed that the Aesir were the gods of the warriors and the competitive nobles who were always fighting, as most of them represent warlike characteristics and power. They live in Asgard and as a result of eating Idun’s apples they stay forever young. Wodan is the oldest one and the father of most of the others. Other well-known individuals are Frigg, Sif, Sigyn, Gerda, Thor, Heimdall, Balder, Tyr, Forseti, Vili, Ve, Vidar, Hönir, Hödur, Loki and Ullar.
